ADAS & Autonomous Vehicle Technology Expo Europe returns to Stuttgart on June 4, 5 & 6, 2024. Located in Europe’s most influential hub for automotive innovation, the event will be a pivotal gathering for industry leaders, researchers and developers alike.

The expo will showcase the latest technologies driving the evolution of autonomous and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Visitors will have the opportunity to witness and explore technologies from testing tools to simulation platforms, software to sensing, and artificial intelligence (AI) to sensor fusion.

Co-located alongside Automotive Testing Expo Europe, the expo will also offer a unique opportunity for networking and collaboration. With international delegates and speakers converging, the stage is set for the cross-pollination of ideas and expertise.

Sneak peek: What exhibitors have in store

Visitors can expect to see more than 150 exhibitors converge at the Stuttgart Messe next month to present advancements in sensors, simulation, mapping, data capture and more. Attendees will be able to explore two expansive halls and delve into the intricacies of ADAS, automated driving technology and software-defined vehicles.

Exhibitors will cover a wide spectrum of technologies vital to the industry’s progress. From AV/ADAS software and hardware to imaging applications, localization and 5G wireless communications, every aspect of automotive technology will be represented.

At the expo, dSpace will showcase its simulation solutions for software-defined vehicles (SDVs), which feature high-performance computers (HPC) and multiple zonal controllers, with a vehicle operating system (middleware) separating the application layer from the hardware layer. dSpace will display its VEOS platform, which provides PC-based software-in-the-loop (SIL) simulation, enabling the integration of heterogeneous systems, models and tools into a single simulation environment.

AVL will present its engineering services tailored to validate ADAS and AD functions in next-generation vehicles, including virtual testing solutions for EMC, radar and steering. With its scenario-based testing approach, AVL is paving the way to virtual homologation in projects beyond L2 and L3. Complemented by road testing solutions, AVL provides deep insights into the toolchain essential for development and certification.

b-plus will display a range of solutions for collecting, processing and validating test data, including hardware advancements and the latest software solutions demonstrated in its MAX technology carrier. Key software highlights include AVETO.dps recording software and CONiX data processing and management solutions tailored for autonomous driving measurement technology.

Xylon is set to showcase the whole product line-up of its new Ethernet I/O modules for the Xylon Quattro datalogger and HIL system. The new line-up caters to customers’ autonomous driving and ADAS testing and validation needs, and includes a 4-Ch 1000Base-T module, a 4-Ch 100Base-T1/1000BASE-T1 module and a 2-Ch 10GBase-T SFP+ module with support for 10GBase-T and 10GBase-T1 SFP+ transceivers. The ethernet modules support PTP/gPTP time synchronization and include a hardware-based ethernet TAP (bridge support) with low-latency bypass, which eliminates costly external switches.

At Kognic’s booth, visitors will be able to find out more about ground-truth data pipelines for sensor-fusion. Its Kognic Platform software solution is used in ADAS and autonomous driving by technology leaders – such as Qualcomm, Bosch, Continental, Kodiak and Zenseact – that create ADAS/AD systems that power global OEMs such as BMW, Ford and Volvo Cars. The company also provides tooling such as multisensor fusion, data exploration, pre-annotations and performance analytics.

Further highlights will include Solectrix‘s automotive image processing solutions; IPG Automotive showcasing
ADAS and AV applications in combination with the CarMaker product family that demonstrate how virtual test driving is enabled along the complete development process; aiMotive‘s software tools for autonomous driving development; InoNet‘s data logger for secure data acquisition and transfer; and Claytex‘s simulation platform for AVs.

What’s on the agenda?

Integral to the expo is the accompanying conference, featuring more than 80 expert speakers from esteemed organizations like Volvo, BMW and Stellantis. Topics ranging from software and AI to testing methodologies and regulatory frameworks will be dissected, providing invaluable insights for attendees.

The conference promises a dynamic blend of keynote presentations and a panel discussion, offering a platform for knowledge exchange and networking. With real-world deployments, AI showcases and regulatory updates on the agenda, attendees stand to gain a holistic understanding of the challenges the industry faces and the opportunities it presents.

An exclusive conference panel discussion at this year’s ADAS & Autonomous Vehicle Technology Expo Europe, will see Volvo Cars, Volkswagen, ASAM, Automotive Solution Center for Simulation, KÜS Bundesgeschäftsstelle and IRT SystemX provide expert advice on ‘Building an integrated toolchain for safe and confident deployment of autonomous vehicle and ADAS technologies’, as part of the Standards, regulations, homologation and collaboration session on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

Panellists include Ali Nouri, senior system safety engineer in autonomous driving, Volvo Cars; Phil Durston, technical manager, Volkswagen vehicle development: proving grounds AD strategy, Volkswagen; Benjamin Engel, chief technology officer, ASAM eV; Alexander F Walser, managing director, Automotive Solution Center for Simulation e.V.; Thomas Tentrup, director of R&D, KÜS Bundesgeschäftsstelle; and Karla Quintero, research engineer/research and technology coordinator, IRT SystemX.

During the three-day conference, delegates will gain exclusive insights from the latest case studies and live trials, software and hardware developments, program announcements, safety and simulation strategies, and testing results.

Conference highlights will include a presentation on Leashing AI: On challenges and solutions in autonomous vehicle safety assurance by Ali Nouri, senior system safety engineer in autonomous driving Volvo Cars. He will discuss how the safe behavior of autonomous vehicles needs to be assured before being deployed on public roads and maintained safely during the operation phase. Nouri will delve into the following key aspects: 1. Autonomous Vehicle Safety Assurance and SafetyOps approach; 2. Challenges toward Rapid SafetyOps, exemplified by System Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA); and 3. Generative AI and Large Language Models as a Potential Solution.

Tobias Traub, a functional safety expert in the power net domain at Bosch, and Jonas Stüble, a system architect for future vehicle power net at Bosch, will discuss how technical regulations and recommendations do not yet fully account for the safety-related availability of power supply systems; and how the application of ISO 26262 on the power supply of autonomous vehicles is troublesome. Their presentation will highlight the framework of the VDA 450 recommendation and its principles that comply with ISO 26262 and help to ensure safe power supply for autonomous vehicles.

On day 2 of the conference, Dr Benazouz Bradai, R&I director and master expert in autonomous driving at Valeo, will discuss High Definition sensors redundancy and complementarity for extended autonomous vehicle ODD. “In this presentation, we will present how the perception requirements for high speed ADS “Automated Driving System” are derived,” he says. “Then we will discuss the redundancy and the complementarity of the HD radar, HD lidar and thermal camera to manage the related critical use-case from a safety and SOTIF point of view. Finally, the extension of the ODD will be presented.”

A highlight on the final day of the conference will be Dekra’s Thomas Jäger debating the emerging importance of connected mobility for safety on roads. He says, “The presentation will cover the latest updates on road safety issues (DEKRA yearly road safety reports, global issues, vehicle type impacts); the latest V2x connectivity technology developments, deployments and related safety improvements; the latest regulatory and certification situation (EU, US and others); the latest updates on testing requirements for connected and automated driving; the most recent developments in regional and global interest groups; and the challenges and outlook.”
