This video shows the Robo-Taxi in operation. Developed by Bangalore-based design and technology company Tata Elxsi and San Francisco Bay Area artificial perception pioneer AEye, the vehicle accepts users’ requests for a taxi, arrives at the pickup point and drops them off at their desired destination, all autonomously.

Robo-Taxi was built on Autonomai, Tata Elxsi’s autonomous middleware platform, and features integrated multiple algorithms such as path planning, sensor fusion, junction detection, cross vehicle and object detection.

This in-house concept demonstrator vehicle wasdeveloped using AEye’s iDAR platform and Tata Elxsi’s autonomous stack. iDAR is the first fully software-definable smart sensor that supports dynamic ROI and cueing of sensors, improving the reliability of detection and classification, while extending the range at which objects can be detected, classified and tracked to enhance safe, reliable vehicle autonomy.
