Harman and Samsung reveal 5G-ready connectivity

LinkedIn +

Harman and Samsung Electronics say they have developed the first 5G-ready automotive telematics solution, along with a multi-band conformal antenna, delivering fast, secure and reliable data communications.

The modular solution accommodates a network access device (NAD) and supports LTE CAT 16 connectivity today, but the same hardware is ready for 5G in the future. A launch customer – a European car maker – has already been secured for the solution.

The companies say 5G, with its latency response times of just 1ms, will support C-V2X, an “essential enabler for autonomous transport”. Connectivity speeds will be as much as 100 times faster than enabled by current 4G LTE, supporting fast and high-resolution streaming, immersive virtual and augmented reality, and cloud-based applications.
