Apple purchases AV startup Drive.ai

US tech giant Apple has strengthened its position in the autonomous vehicle (AV) market with the purchase of startup Drive.ai, according to US news site CNBC.

The report states that Apple will bolster its engineering ranks with Drive.ai employees who are capable of building autonomous vehicle technology.

Elsewhere a report by the San Francisco Chronicle had claimed that Drive.ai filed a notice with the state of California to close its business and lay off 90 workers. The startup had previously partnered with the city of Arlington, Texas, to offer a shuttle service using self-driving cars.
