Ambarella, an edge AI semiconductor company, and Plus, a provider of AI-based driver assist and autonomous driving (AD) solutions, have integrated Plus’s PlusVision perception software into Ambarella’s CV3-AD AI domain controller family of systems-on-chip (SoCs).

PlusVision is a high-performance, transformer-based AD perception software stack.

The collaboration aims to help Tier 1 suppliers and car makers accelerate the launch of next-generation vehicles featuring L2+/L3 autonomy. PlusVision combines advanced AI perception capabilities with an extensive dataset derived from millions of real-world driving miles across the USA, Europe and Australia.

This data collection aims to enhance the software’s ability to deliver detailed and information-rich output, which is crucial for developing autonomous driving policies. The uniform perception software provided by PlusVision can also facilitate the implementation of these data-driven policies across various vehicle models and trim levels.

David Liu, CEO and co-founder of Plus, commented, “We are delighted to collaborate with Ambarella in offering PlusVision’s leading-edge perception capabilities on their CV3-AD SoCs. This combination will provide Tier 1s and OEMs with a flexible, high-performance and power-efficient perception solution, enabling them to create a futureproof platform that can be adapted for their evolving autonomy needs.”

The PlusVision stack, running on a mid-range CV3-AD655 SoC, can process 11 cameras simultaneously at 30 frames per second, providing more than 200m of front-camera detection range.

The companies say the partnership has optimized the PlusVision model for the CVflow AI engine inside the CV3-AD SoCs, resulting in a high-performance, low-latency, low-power AI processing solution. It is hoped that the efficiency of the CV3-AD family will help increase battery range in new electric vehicles and provide OEMs with the capacity to integrate other software and create differentiated features.

Fermi Wang, the president and CEO of Ambarella, added, “Our collaboration with Plus offers Tier 1s and OEMs additional cutting-edge transformer-based AI perception software solutions to help accelerate their next-generation vehicle development. This is a pivotal time for the automotive industry, and solutions like this give Tier 1s and OEMs the flexibility to efficiently differentiate their offerings and maximize customer value.”
