Tesla has launched public robotaxi rides without a safety monitor on board in Austin, Texas, according to a post on X by Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s VP of Autopilot and AI software.
Tesla launched a robotaxi service in Austin last June for employees, but this featured a human safety monitor on board in the passenger’s seat. This safety measure has now been removed, with the robotaxi service expanded to the public too.
“Robotaxi rides without any safety monitors are now publicly available in Austin. Starting with a few unsupervised vehicles mixed in with the broader robotaxi fleet with safety monitors, and the ratio will increase over time,” said Elluswamy on X.”
