As China cements its position at the forefront of smart mobility, Automechanika Shanghai has evolved right alongside it. Ahead of this year’s edition, running from December 2-5, 2026, at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), AAVI spoke with the team behind the event to explore the show’s journey and the technologies taking center stage in 2026.
What’s the story behind Automechanika, and how has the brand expanded over time?
As one of Messe Frankfurt’s flagship brands, Automechanika is a leading international trade fair network for the automotive service industry and mobility sector. The first edition started off in Frankfurt in 1971, and now the brand covers global markets; with 16 Automechanika shows across 15 countries and regions, the brand connects the entire automotive value chain, from parts, components and equipment to connectivity, autonomous systems and future mobility solutions.
As the automotive world shifted toward Asia as a rising industrial hub, the global expansion of the brand paved the way for Automechanika Shanghai. Debuting in 2004 with just 235 exhibitors across 10,000m2 , the show has experienced extensive growth over the last two decades. From December 2-5, 2026, the exhibition will cover 390,000m2 and 16 halls of the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), hosting approximately 7,600 exhibitors as an essential global platform for the automotive industry.
The show’s expansion mirrors the transformation of China’s automotive sector and global supply chains. What originated as a traditional aftermarket trade fair has evolved into a comprehensive mobility platform. Today, conventional parts share the spotlight with intelligent connectivity, automated technologies and software-defined systems, covering the entire automotive ecosystem and serving as a hub where traditional manufacturing converges with digital and autonomous solutions. By bridging upstream development with downstream service capabilities, Automechanika Shanghai drives innovation, development and supply chain integration on an international scale.
What are the key highlights visitors can expect at Automechanika Shanghai 2026?
This year’s exhibition highlights the rapid evolution of intelligent technologies within the automotive industry. A key feature is the New Energy & Connectivity area, which has expanded to nearly 46,000m2, a 15% increase over 2025. The area will feature more than 750 domestic and international brand exhibitors, as well as a new concept for the show: Automotive+, which aims to foster cross-sector collaboration by integrating AI, software-defined systems, new energy, connected ecosystems, industrial robots and multimodal mobility solutions.
The concept will be explored through the Innovation4Mobility (I4M) program, which will feature over 30 in-depth discussion sessions and its dedicated concept zone, demonstrating how software, AI and automotive hardware extend into new applications, including autonomous commercial logistics, robotics and the low-altitude economy.
Many more high-level industry dialogues will also take place throughout the exhibition. Platforms such as the CEO Summit, the Intelligent Connected Vehicle Innovation and Development Conference 2026 and the AIAG Asia Quality Summit address critical topics, including vehicle access standards, in-vehicle AI integration, supply chain quality systems and international market entry.
How are ADAS and automated driving shaping the automotive sector, and how is Automechanika reflecting these developments?
In the first half of 2026, China’s NEV production reached 7.438 million units and sales hit 7.446 million units, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. Meanwhile, new passenger cars with combined driver assistance achieved a 70% penetration rate, and navigation-assisted driving (NOA) surpassed 30%, prompting new national safety standards. These developments accelerate ‘aggregated intelligence’ across smart vehicles, embodied AI and the low-altitude economy, which share over 60% of their supply chain infrastructure.
Automechanika Shanghai has long anticipated industry shifts like these. The show first introduced a dedicated New Energy Zone in 2011 as battery-powered electric vehicles transitioned from a niche curiosity to market contenders, followed by the launch of Tomorrow’s Service & Mobility in 2018, which debuted autonomous driving at the show. These initiatives have evolved into the Innovation4Mobility (I4M) program and today’s New Energy & Connectivity area, established in 2024 and continuously updated to reflect the future of software, AI and smart mobility.
This forward thinking is evident across the 2026 floor, with key exhibitors unveiling the latest ADAS and autonomous technologies. Highlights include Neolix, displaying L4 autonomous delivery vehicles, vision-action models and Robot as a Service (RaaS) solutions; iFLYTEK, presenting intelligent cockpit and acoustic systems; and Hirain Technologies, showcasing automated driving and intelligent chassis domain controllers, alongside BICV, Bool, Huaqin Technology and more.
Specialized showcase areas like the Air-Ground Intelligent Connectivity Zone and the Automotive Semiconductor Ecosystem Zone will further demonstrate how these technologies unite across sectors.
What is your message to AAVI’s readers about Automechanika?
China is leading the global frontier in smart mobility. Allianz forecasts the country’s domestic ADAS market to expand nearly 50% annually over the next four years, exceeding US$55bn, with ADAS penetration expected to surpass 80% by 2030. As China drives this transformation, Automechanika Shanghai showcases the very best technologies it has to offer.
Acting as a bridge between innovation and global supply chains, the show is a natural destination for sourcing, networking and learning. Beyond the product showcase, the exhibition serves as a meeting place for international industry alignment and collaborative growth, essential for industry players looking to tap into emerging trends and align with China’s leading automotive and technological sectors.
We welcome AAVI’s readers to join us from December 2-5, 2026, at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) to explore current developments and collaborate on the future of intelligent mobility.
