Mixel has announced its support for the Automotive SerDes Alliance Motion Link (ASA-ML), with a SerDes IP compliant with the ASA Motion Link v2.1 specification.

The Mixel ASA-ML Physical Layer (PHY) IP complies with version 2.1 of the ASA-ML specification. It supports both transmit (TX) and receive (RX) functions with downstream speeds of up to 8.0Gbps per lane using NRZ signaling (Speed Grade 3). The PHY includes features designed to accommodate a range of channels, environmental conditions and data rates. It also incorporates built-in design-for-test (DFT) features to support mass production and system-level testing for link reliability.

With the growing adoption of advanced driver-assistance systems and in-vehicle infotainment (IVI), including in-cabin digital cockpits for software-defined vehicles, there is increasing demand for asymmetric camera and display networks with high downstream and lower upstream bandwidth. Historically, auto makers have been limited to proprietary, single-sourced asymmetric links or non-standardized solutions. The Automotive SerDes Alliance was formed to standardize SerDes connectivity for automotive applications.

“Silicon IP providers are instrumental in driving the growth of the ASA ecosystem. They empower third-party silicon vendors to bring innovative ASA-ML products to market without the need to invest in transceiver development,” said Christoph Arndt, chair of the Automotive SerDes Alliance. “This kind of enablement is essential to accelerating adoption and fostering a vibrant, competitive landscape.”

“The expertise from Mixel is a welcome addition to the Automotive SerDes Alliance,” added Dr Kirsten Matheus, chair of ASA Technical Committees A and B. “Their decision to offer ASA-ML SerDes IP demonstrates the growing momentum behind ASA-ML and marks an important step toward realizing ASA’s mission of standardized, interoperable in-vehicle connectivity.”

“Over Mixel’s 25+ year company history, we have had a track record of first-time silicon success for all IP developments. We are leveraging this experience with our lead customer who is collaborating with one of the world’s largest OEMs. We are optimistic about the future of ASA and its long-term success as it continues to gain traction,” said Ashraf Takla, founder and CEO of Mixel. “While we continue our MIPI focus, our support for ASA is consistent with our long-term plans to expand our product portfolio beyond MIPI.”
