US full-by-wire vehicle certification awarded to REE Automotive

REE Automotive, an automotive technology company and provider of full by-wire e-trucks and platforms, has announced that customer deliveries of its P7-C electric chassis cab have begun. This follows certifications from the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which make the company the first to certify a fully x-by-wire vehicle.

The trucks are built on the company’s REEcorner, a modular EV platform that can be adapted to mission-specific applications. According to REE, its platform and x-by-wire technology can provide improved maneuverability and volumetric efficiency; enhance safety with fail-operational elements via hardware and software redundancies; improve residual value; and enable future-proofed,  autonomous-ready and OTA upgrade capabilities.

REE has initiated customer deliveries of the first batch of P7-C demonstration trucks for multiple fleets evaluations in North America via its Authorized Dealer Network. Pritchard EV, a US automotive dealer, is the first to receive the P7-C demonstration truck for a roadshow with its fleet customers. Additional authorized dealers and fleets are expected to receive additional P7-C demonstration units in the coming weeks.

Daniel Barel, CEO and co-founder of REE Automotive, said, “I am incredibly proud of the team at REE for completing certification of the automotive industry’s first ever fully x-by-wire vehicle.”

Richard Colley, REE’s VP of government and regulatory affairs, said, “The federal and state incentives that the P7-C will be eligible for will help accelerate fleet electrification in the US, helping to improve public health and meet ambitious climate goals.”
