Ansys introduces new capabilities for EV and AD simulation tasks

Simulation specialist Ansys has released the latest update, 2021 R1, for its suite of products, which it says delivers improvements in simulation performance while better harnessing the capabilities of high-performance computing resources.

Among the various updates, 2021 R1 has features aimed at large electromagnetic system simulations while also facilitating the inclusion of vendor components in those simulations with greater efficiency and scalability. These components can also be encrypted, so vendors can share proprietary 3D component designs and create high-fidelity simulations.

The company states the update also now provides a comprehensive sensor solution for autonomous vehicles, including real-time, physics-based radar sensor capability, combined with closed-loop simulation validation to enhance AV safety. Additionally, new scanning and rotating lidar models boost AV simulation reliability.

Meanwhile, revised embedded systems and software solutions increase communication among team members to help cut embedded software certification costs. This, claims the company, has the potential to deliver improved modeling and code-generation flexibility for AUTOSAR automotive software components. Ansys also highlights that its improved safety solutions help enhance EV and AV safety analyses by graphically pinpointing where potential system failures may occur, simplifying the software safety review process.

For EV-specific development, a new battery designer tool is included to assist engineers in optimizing materials selection, while a new EV powertrain library speeds system simulation of electrified components. Further enhancements also include the addition of new battery models covering scenarios including battery crush, cooling, nail penetration and module crush.
