Nominations announced for the first ever ADAS & Autonomous Vehicle International Awards

The shortlist of companies and projects chosen by an expert judging panel for the first ever ADAS & Autonomous Vehicle International Awards has been revealed.

Readers of ADAS & Autonomous Vehicle International magazine (subscribe here) will now vote on the shortlisted nominations, choosing the most worthy across eight categories. Voting will remain open until April 15, 2025. You can vote here.

The winners will be announced during a live ceremony taking place at 16:30 on Day 2 (May 21) of this year’s ADAS & Autonomous Vehicle Technology Expo in Hall 9 at Messe Stuttgart, Germany.

Coordinated by ADAS & Autonomous Vehicle International (AAVI) magazine, the awards celebrate the very best innovations across the ADAS and autonomous mobility sector during the last 18 months, acknowledging the achievements of the most remarkable projects and companies.

The shortlist

The following companies and projects have been nominated: 

Vehicle deployment of the year: Recognizing a standout vehicle deployment that successfully integrates ADAS or autonomous technology. The nominees are:

  • Waymo (200,000 paid rides a week);
  • WeRide (driverless permits across five countries: China, UAE, Singapore, France, USA);
  • BMW Highway Assistant/Personal Pilot L3 (first OEM to receive approval for an ADAS combining Level 2 and Level 3 assistance in the same vehicle);
  • Kodiak & Atlas Energy (first successful commercial L4 operation with no human safety driver);
  • Mercedes-Benz Drive Pilot (2024 update allows hands-free driving at speeds of up to 95km/h on German motorways).

Safety innovation of the year: Recognizing a technology or system designed to improve safety and risk reduction. The nominees are:

  • Valeo & Teledyne FLIR (first Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) B thermal imaging technology for night-vision ADAS);
  • HAAS Alert Safety Cloud (collision prevention system);
  • VW Emergency Assist (driver attention monitoring);
  • ZF Multi-Stage Load Limiter (adaptive seat belt system).

Collaboration of the year: Recognizing a successful partnership between companies that led to a breakthrough in ADAS or autonomous technology. The nominees are:

  • BMW & Stellantis (STLA Autodrive L3 autonomous driving system);
  • Rivian & VW (US$5.8bn joint venture);
  • ASAM Open X (open, flexible, transparent and collaborative simulation standards);
  • RAVE Checklist (Recommendations for overcoming challenges in retrospective safety studies of automated driving systems).

In-cabin innovation of the year: Recognizing a technology that radically enhances driver/passenger experience, comfort or safety. The nominees are:

  • NOVELIC Automotive In-cabin Monitoring (ACAM);
  • Smart Eye Sheila (AI co-driver);
  • AVS Scaner Human Factors (driver behaviour simulation).

Engineering team of the year: Recognizing an exceptional engineering team behind a key innovation in ADAS or autonomous technology. The nominees are:

  • Mercedes-Benz Drive Pilot (2024 update allows hands-free driving at speeds of up to 95km/h on German motorways);
  • MAN Truck & Bus TruckScenes (free/open sensor and driving database);
  • Goodyear & TNO (integration of tire intelligence technology into AEB system);
  • Kodiak & Atlas Energy (driverless logistics commercial operation)

Public awareness campaign of the year: Recognizing an initiative that successfully educated the public on ADAS/autonomous technology, increasing awareness and adoption. The nominees are:

  • EuroNCAP Truck Rating Overview
  • Torc Robotics First Responder campaign
  • IIHS partial automation safeguard ratings

Disrupter of the year: Recognizing a company, product, individual or initiative that has significantly challenged conventional industry practices. The nominees are:

  • Wayve (Generalizable AI vehicle model);
  • NXP CoreRide platform;
  • DeepSeek (Open source AI model)

Startup of the year: Recognizing an early-stage company (≤ five years old) making a significant impact in ADAS or autonomous vehicle technology. The nominees are:

  • Waabi
  • IVEX
  • PERCIV.AI
