The deal builds on a collaboration first announced in May 2025 and is delivered as a firmware upgrade to Teseo devices, without requiring new hardware.

The joint solution delivers a leap in GNSS reliability in tough environments where conventional GNSS systems struggle and is delivered as a simple firmware upgrade to Teseo devices. Backed by FocalPoint’s patented Supercorrelation technology, S-GNSS software has demonstrated consistent accuracy improvements in multipath and signal-degraded conditions, the companies said.

The results demonstrate that the combined solution provides the most accurate horizontal positioning among the receivers evaluated in deep urban conditions.

In a head-to-head benchmark using recorded GNSS signals from some of Central London’s toughest urban environments, the combined FocalPoint–STMicroelectronics solution cut worst-case positioning errors by up to 32% compared with other commercially available receivers tested under identical conditions. These urban canyon scenarios, characterized by tall buildings, signal blockage and multipath reflections, are among the most difficult for GNSS receivers to maintain accurate positioning in.

First piloted in 2023, these small, privacy-protective smart traffic monitoring sensors count pedestrians, cyclists, buses and vehicles to assess patterns in how people use the streets. Sensors will be installed at approximately 80 additional locations across the five boroughs to accelerate data-driven street safety improvements.

“Safer street design starts with understanding what is actually happening on the street,” said Flynn. “These high-tech sensors will help us evaluate how people are walking, biking and driving so we can design safer streets and encourage safer behavior.”

Building on the successful pilot, NYC DOT will this year scale up a technology that has already transformed how the agency measures traffic activity.

Centimeter-level positioning depends on continuous carrier phase lock. When that lock is interrupted – a routine occurrence in dense cities, under tree cover and in multipath-heavy environments – receivers suffer cycle slips and force the system to reinitialize. For advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), automated driving and robotics, these interruptions are the defining barrier to deployment at scale.

According to the company, Precise+ uses Focal Point’s Supercorrelation for precise global navigation satellite system (GNSS) positioning, improving performance in challenging environments: sub-meter performance in conditions where commercial receivers with live corrections deliver multimeter errors.

On the first day of the conference, Focal Point Positioning principal engineer Javier Garcia will present a poster titled Precise+: Bringing the benefits of Supercorrelation to precise GNSS positioning. The research explores how the company’s patented Precise+ technology enhances carrier-phase measurements in challenging environments, enabling centimeter-level positioning accuracy. This capability opens new commercial opportunities, particularly in autonomous vehicle navigation and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Supercorrelation has reportedly improved GNSS reliability in challenging environments, significantly improving code-phase and Doppler measurements in real-world testing worldwide.

When someone is in a critical situation, emergency responders must be able to locate them as fast as possible. In vehicles, automated systems like eCall and V2X can help, but their effectiveness depends on reliable, accurate positioning, explains Jez Ellis-Gray, lead product manager at FocalPoint Positioning

An EU initiative aimed at saving lives by reducing response times to road traffic incidents, eCall, has been mandatory in newly manufactured vehicles since 2019. When a road traffic incident occurs, the eCall system immediately notifies emergency services of the location and details of the incident, potentially halving response times.
