Hyundai Motor Group has named Junghyun Kwon as its new executive vice president and head of the Autonomous Driving Development Center. According to the company, Kwon will be pivotal in advancing Hyundai’s autonomous driving capabilities. He will report to Minwoo Park, president and head of the advanced vehicle platform division.

Kwon is an autonomous driving AI expert who has worked at leading global tech companies. He oversaw autonomous driving software development and commercialization at Nvidia. Most recently, Kwon led intelligent robot development at Samsung Electronics.

Drawing on his deep expertise in autonomous vehicle perception software, deep learning, machine learning and computer vision technologies, Kwon will lead the group’s autonomous driving technology development from conception through product commercialization.

PlusAI has shared updated commercial readiness metrics for the first half of 2026, highlighting continued progress toward the commercial deployment of factory-built autonomous trucks targeted for 2027.

Mobileye has announced that its founder, Prof. Amnon Shashua, intends to step down as chief executive officer upon the appointment of a successor. Mobileye’s board of directors will hire an executive search firm and conduct a comprehensive process to select a new CEO. Prof. Shashua will remain a director of the company, and the board has offered him the role of chairman once a new CEO has been appointed.

Founded in 1999, Mobileye develops computer vision technology for advanced driver-assistance and autonomous driving systems. Its technology is deployed in more than 250 million vehicles across over 1,400 models worldwide.

Valeo has secured a contract for advanced safety technologies with a North American electric vehicle manufacturer. The company will deploy its corner radar suite, including both hardware and embedded software, for the auto maker’s L2+ and L3 system.

The latest generation of radar has been engineered to enable essential life-saving features, including automatic emergency braking (AEB), lane keeping assist (LKA) as well as safe exit protection (SEP). Valeo’s radar system can also support eyes-off functions that could be added over-the-air by the OEM at a later date.

“This landmark win with a major North American auto maker validates the unrivaled performance of our next-generation radar in the most demanding environments,” said Marc Vrecko, CEO of Valeo Brain Division.

Suma brings nearly 30 years of freight industry experience, having built his career from the ground up at Knight Transportation before founding Loadsmith and then TrailerHawk.ai, a trailer technology company acquired by Wabash in 2025.

Following a £14.1m (US$19m) fundraising to support global expansion, Aurrigo International has opened a new UK hub, marking a key step in its growth and manufacturing capability. Production of the company’s autonomous vehicles will begin shortly at a facility in Power Park, Coventry.

The new site measures over 12,000m2, more than three times the size of the firm’s current facility, and will serve as its UK hub for advanced engineering, autonomous vehicle development, high-volume manufacturing and ongoing automotive activities.

This expansion supports Aurrigo’s recently launched international hub and licensing program, which aims to accelerate the company’s global commercialization strategy by seeking local relationships, funding and manufacturing support in Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and the US.

A new report commissioned by Aurora and conducted by the Steer Group has found that autonomous freight is already contributing billions to the US$1tn US trucking industry, with even greater economic potential expected over the next decade. In response, Aurora Innovation is committing US$1m to its Aurora Works initiative to help prepare the US workforce.

The analysis, titled Economic Impacts of Self-Driving Freight in the US,  highlights that autonomous trucking, despite being in early stages of deployment, currently supports 17,000 jobs and US$3.3bn in total economic output.

The report projects that by 2035, autonomous trucking will contribute US$70bn to US GDP, becoming a highly efficient growth driver for long-haul transportation.
