As these systems grow more sophisticated, auto makers face increasing pressure to demonstrate that they operate safely, reliably and as intended throughout the vehicle lifecycle. Providing this assurance is a major challenge as the industry works to bring increasingly intelligent vehicles to market while meeting evolving regulatory and safety requirements.</p>
<p>Keysight Technologies and the Centre for Assuring Autonomy (CfAA) at the University of York (UK) have announced a research collaboration to advance the safe deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) in software-defined vehicles (SDVs). The collaboration will focus on developing practical methods to validate AI systems and generate the evidence needed to demonstrate their safety and reliability.</p>

Testing the model across multiple AI architectures showed attack transferability and physical-world robustness, with researchers stating that training models with AdvWT-generated damaged signs could help identify vulnerabilities and improve AI generalisation to real-world damage.</p>
<p>In computer vision and robotics, ensuring that AI systems remain reliable under real-world conditions is a growing challenge. Deep neural network-based vision systems are increasingly used in safety-critical applications such as autonomous driving, where misinterpreting a traffic sign could potentially lead to unsafe decisions.</p>

<p>Backed by UK government funding through the CAM Pathfinder program, this new technology combines Gaussian scene reconstruction and generative AI techniques to create highly realistic digital representations of real-world environments. The company has been creating and using simulation software for automotive manufacturers since 2015.</p>
<p>Gaussian scene reconstruction converts images captured from the real world into photorealistic 3D environments that can be rendered efficiently in a simulation. It allows developers to recreate roads, junctions and other driving environments with a level of realism that is otherwise difficult to achieve at scale.</p>

<p>Under the JST program, a research team led by Prof. Yoshihiro Kawahara of the Graduate School of Engineering at The University of Tokyo will advance research into use-case-driven, functionally differentiated physical AI chip design. Meanwhile, Tier IV is developing the logic design of an AI chip designed to efficiently process inference for end-to-end (E2E) autonomous driving AI.</p>
<p>&#8220;In physical AI applications such as robotics and autonomous driving, GPU power consumption has long been a major bottleneck for deployment on battery-powered devices,&#8221; said Prof.</p>

Waabi has announced the results of its zero-shot transfer, marking a significant step toward scalable autonomous vehicle deployment.</p>
<p>Generalization in self-driving takes two distinct forms.</p>
<p>The first is the ability to generalize across environments and behaviors, applying knowledge and skills safely across different operational design domains (ODDs), from highways to dense urban streets, varying traffic patterns, road geometries and driving behaviors. Waabi’s Driver system addresses this through an end-to-end AI approach with reasoning capabilities that, in Q1 2025, it expanded beyond highway operation to complex urban surface streets.</p>

The challenge for OEMs and their suppliers is that these systems must work reliably across a vast range of real-world conditions and testing them physically is slow, expensive and limited in scope.</p>
<p>To address this, rFpro has launched the AV Elevate In Cabin add-on package, which enables automotive OEMs, Tier 1s and sensor developers to tune, train and test driver and occupant monitoring systems in simulation to improve the speed and consistency of in-cabin testing.</p>

<p>Chinese auto maker Xpeng commissioned independent research agency Improof Research to conduct a quantitative study of public attitudes toward artificial intelligence and physical AI across six European countries, alongside a reference sample from major Chinese cities. The survey fieldwork was carried out between May 1 and 14, 2026.</p>
