Global simulation and validation solutions provider dSPACE is at ADAS & Autonomous Vehicle Technology Expo California 2024 to showcase an early access release of its new traffic virtualizer tool. The tool enables object list data to be analyzed and converted into replica (exact restimulation) or logical (with parameter variation) scenarios.
For generation of logical scenarios, the traffic virtualizer categorizes the traffic data according to scenario templates (abstract scenarios) and estimates the right parameters for the logical actions in the scenario description.
“It prepares the road (ODR) and scenario (OSC) files so that these can be seamlessly integrated into traffic simulators,” explained Chris Manning, the company’s autonomous driver and software engineering manager. “On top of that, dSPACE offers an engineering service to create complete digital twins of the 3D environment.”
Thorsten Püschl, advanced driving and software solutions manager, continued, “Available object list data contains lots of relevant scenarios that can be reused in the simulation-based validation process. This allows fully automated transfer of recorded object list data into simulation.
“There are also replica scenarios, which are exact resimulations of real-world incidents or edge cases in SIL/HIL simulation. This enables validation of sensor models by comparison of real-world measurements with simulation results of the generated scenario. Logical scenarios enable users to utilize a scenario in large-scale simulation (scenario-based-testing) to generate multiple scenarios by parameter-variation for finding new edge cases.
“OpenSCENARIO allows the scenarios to be imported into third-party simulation tools, while the GUI provides easy access to run first experiments for putting the process into operation, and the API allows users to scale up the scenario generation and integrate it into automated processes.”
