Yet more speakers have been added to the conference line-up for next week’s ADAS & Autonomous Vehicle Technology Expo California, which takes place at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center on August 28 & 29.

The event will feature a free-to-attend exhibition showcasing the latest innovations from 80+ leading tech suppliers, and an intensive two-day conference (rates apply) with 50+ speakers, where delegates will be able to gain exclusive insights from the latest case studies, live trials, software and hardware developments, program announcements, safety and simulation strategies, and testing results.

New speakers added in the last few weeks include Tilo Schwarz, vice president and head of autonomy at Nuro, who leads the team responsible for delivering an AI-first autonomy stack that powers autonomous vehicles for various applications. In a presentation titled ‘Developing and validating an AI-first autonomous driving system’, Tilo will present the Nuro Driver, its current architecture and main components, perception, mapping and localization and behavior. He will look into the machine learning and robotics parts of the Nuro Driver and share the company’s approach to ensure the safety of the generated trajectories. He will also show how to test and validate that the overall system works as intended.

Before his time at Nuro, Tilo spent over 20 years at Mercedes-Benz, both in Germany and in the Silicon Valley headquarters of Mercedes-Benz Research and Technology North America. Throughout his career he has focused on innovative technology and software development for advanced driver assistance systems and autonomous driving. He has deep expertise in L2, L3 and L4 vehicle systems.

Alessandro Norscia, vice president of product at May Mobility, has also just been announced as a new speaker! He will present ‘Unlocking the future of autonomous vehicles: scalability for next-gen mobility’, in which he will argue that the path to scalable autonomous driving demands more than just cutting-edge technology and needs a holistic system design that combines driving performance with efficiency and adaptability.

He will explain how May Mobility’s patented Multi-Policy Decision Making (MPDM) technology redefines real-time decision making in autonomous vehicles, ensuring safe, adaptable operations across diverse environments. By leveraging over 130 meticulously characterized operational design domain (ODD) elements, May Mobility’s approach enables AVs to seamlessly scale across new cities and routes with unmatched precision.

Conference delegates will be able to explore the critical importance of integrating AI and data analytics to overcome the complexities of AV scalability and master the long tail of real-world driving scenarios. Attendees will also gain insights into the future of autonomous driving, learning how to harness AI-powered decision making and end-to-end system design to accelerate deployment, enhance safety and drive the future of urban mobility. Join Alessandro to explore the intersection of technology, data and AI in transforming autonomous vehicle development.

Since joining May Mobility in 2023, Alessandro has led the product organization’s delivery of Mobility as a Service transit solutions. He has more than 20 years’ experience in product leadership in the automotive, automation, consumer electronics and telecommunications markets. Previously, he served as senior director of product management at Intel, overseeing the definition, management and commercialization of Intel’s hardware and software platform solutions for autonomous driving, ADAS, software-defined vehicles and autonomous mobile robots. Before Intel, he held leadership positions at companies including Qualcomm and Infineon in the areas of automotive wireless connectivity, home networking and broadband communication.

Conference overview

The two-day conference features more than 60 speakers from international OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, R&D centers and transportation startups, sharing best practices and strategies for the latest ADAS/AV testing protocols, procedures and solutions.

World-leading experts in autonomous vehicle research from companies such as  Goodyear, Waymo, Kodiak, Microsoft, Wayve, IBM and Valeo, will discuss AI, software, sensor fusion, AV testing, validation, development, standards and safety.

Presentations not to miss include a deep dive by Plus into the application of the latest AI models in developing autonomous driving technology; and California DMV insights into the latest regulatory developments in AV testing.

AAVI has shared some of the presentations it is most looking forward to at this year’s conference.
