California-headquartered autonomous mobility specialist Kodiak AI has announced that it is to begin international operations with a new pilot operation at West Fraser Timber‘s log-hauling operations in Alberta, Canada, where trucks will be deployed equipped with its Kodiak Driver AI-powered autonomous driving system.

In the initial phase of work, Kodiak will pilot the use of its self-driving technology to transport timber from forest sites to one of West Fraser’s Alberta processing facilities in Western Canada later this year. Results of the pilot will be used to inform any future long-term deployment of Kodiak Driver-equipped trucks for commercial driverless operations.

Bosch has begun supplying hardware components to Kodiak AI as part of their collaboration on autonomous driving technology.

Kodiak is testing and validating camera samples from Bosch and has integrated early prototype sensors into its SensorPods, which house autonomous driving hardware. The company is also evaluating Bosch vehicle actuation components as part of ongoing development and testing.

Since announcing their collaboration in January 2026, Bosch and Kodiak AI have progressed from strategic alignment to joint engineering work.

“The quick transition to tangible engineering progress underscores the velocity behind this collaboration,” said Don Burnette, founder and CEO, Kodiak AI.

Hutchison Port Holdings Trust (HPH Trust) has unveiled a fleet of zero-emission autonomous trucks in Hong Kong.

The AI-powered innovation is designed for efficient container transportation at all terminals, and supports the city’s objectives of smarter and greener port terminal operations.

The launch ceremony was officiated by Liu Chun San, undersecretary for transport and logistics in the HKSAR government and Ivor Chow, CEO of HPH Trust and managing director of Hongkong International Terminals (HIT).

The autonomous truck (AT) fleet vehicles, designed without a driver’s cab, can operate alongside conventional vehicles in a mixed-traffic mode called ‘true’.

A new report commissioned by Aurora and conducted by the Steer Group has found that autonomous freight is already contributing billions to the US$1tn US trucking industry, with even greater economic potential expected over the next decade. In response, Aurora Innovation is committing US$1m to its Aurora Works initiative to help prepare the US workforce.

The analysis, titled Economic Impacts of Self-Driving Freight in the US,  highlights that autonomous trucking, despite being in early stages of deployment, currently supports 17,000 jobs and US$3.3bn in total economic output.

The report projects that by 2035, autonomous trucking will contribute US$70bn to US GDP, becoming a highly efficient growth driver for long-haul transportation.

Aurora Innovation has announced that it is tripling the size of its driverless network with the launch of its latest software release, which will enable the Aurora Driver to begin expanding across the southern United States and serve customer endpoints in 2026.

“Expanding across the Sun Belt and introducing customer endpoints enables us to provide our customers with the capacity they need to move goods at a scale that wasn’t possible before,” said Chris Urmson, co-founder and CEO of Aurora. “Being a carrier is a game of margins, and if autonomy can work around the clock, it will be key to growing our customers’ businesses.”

The company’s latest software release is its fourth since deploying driverless trucks in April 2025.

Radar solutions provider bitsensing has launched an advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) kit designed to greatly improve safety and driving awareness in existing commercial vehicles, by providing an extensive range of driver warnings during vehicle operations.

The company notes commercial vehicles have always operated under conditions of heightened risk on our roadways, with drivers encountering larger blind spots, longer braking distances and frequent and unexpected interactions with pedestrians and other road users. Commercial vehicles, typically heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), are involved in 14% of all fatal road crashes in the EU (ERSO report) and 9% in the US (NHSTA report).

By fusing two critical road safety sensors – radar and cameras – the ADAS kit delivers extensive and advanced road safety warnings to drivers, including BSIS (blind spot information system), SVM (surround-view monitoring), RCW (rear collision warning), FVSA (front vehicle start alert), FCW (forward collision warning) and MOIS (moving-off information system).

The Traton Group and PlusAI have announced that they are to expand their global partnership to accelerate the development and scaled deployment of on-highway autonomous trucking solutions in the USA and Europe.

Under an expanded agreement, Traton will provide up to US$25m in non-dilutive R&D funding to PlusAI to accelerate the integration of SuperDrive into autonomous trucks across Traton’s brands. As part of PlusAI’s planned public listing, Traton will nominate a representative to the PlusAI board of directors to strengthen alignment ahead of the planned US commercial launch.

“Autonomous trucking is a strategic pillar of Traton’s long-term technology roadmap,” said Niklas Klingenberg, member of the executive board for research and development, Traton.
