Aurora deployed Class 8 trucks powered by the Aurora Driver, its self-driving system, on public roads last year. As of the end of June, the Aurora Driver has completed nearly 440,000 driverless miles. The company’s route expansion is also driving significant commercial momentum, underscored by a customer’s recent plan to purchase 500 Aurora Driver-powered trucks.

“Last year’s driverless launch proved our technology could operate safely on public roads – our new platform now provides the foundation to deliver at scale,” said Chris Urmson, CEO and co-founder of Aurora.

Waabi has announced the results of its zero-shot transfer, marking a significant step toward scalable autonomous vehicle deployment.

Generalization in self-driving takes two distinct forms.

The first is the ability to generalize across environments and behaviors, applying knowledge and skills safely across different operational design domains (ODDs), from highways to dense urban streets, varying traffic patterns, road geometries and driving behaviors. Waabi’s Driver system addresses this through an end-to-end AI approach with reasoning capabilities that, in Q1 2025, it expanded beyond highway operation to complex urban surface streets.

For PepsiCo, the partnership expands delivery capacity and supports improved consistency and customer service across its US supply chain. The partnership is focused on the company’s regional transportation networks, where products move daily from site to site.

“Serving our vast network of customers requires a supply chain that is safe, reliable and built for the future,” said Jim Farrell, senior vice president of supply chain at PepsiCo North America. “Gatik is already operating inside our networks and brings the autonomous freight technology, commercial experience and scale we need to strengthen service, add capacity and move products more consistently for our customers.”

Gatik’s autonomous trucks are designed for end-to-end deliveries on highways and surface streets, with route-planning capabilities developed for regional logistics networks involving hundreds of pickup and drop-off locations.

The project was the first step under the memorandum of understanding signed by Volvo and Boliden in 2023 and saw material moved from an on-site quarry on Boliden premises and then used to reinforce a local dam and heighten the dam wall. In total, close to 700,000 metric tons of rock fill material were transported autonomously. Volvo’s autonomous haulage system ran more than 11,000 transportation cycles covering 56,000km.

“Autonomy has clear benefits for the mining industry, especially when it comes to removing people from hazardous environments and improving the safety and efficiency of operations,” said Ingo Stürmer, CTO at Volvo Autonomous Solutions.
