Vector introduces data harvesting tool

Being able to effectively harvest and log data from a vehicle’s sensors is a vital aspect of ADAS and AD development. New logging solution CANape log, from specialist Vector, has been launched to assist engineers with this task.

According to the company, it can be used to record all data from sensors, networks and complex protocols as well as internal ECU data. It claims the solution can be scaled to match increasing requirements and preconfigured logging is started, stopped and monitored via a mobile device.

While many datalogging solutions are not able to collect sensor data from different manufacturers, Vector states that CANape is capable of recording large amounts of data from different sources synchronously. Using the company’s scalable VX1161 measurement hardware and VN network interfaces, users are able to connect sensors, ECUs and networks, such as automotive Ethernet, to the logger. Raw data from video streams as well as radar can also be recorded.

The system has two modes of operation, in standalone mode users can monitor and control the logger via a browser-based user interface, while in interactive mode a laptop with CANape is coupled to the logger hardware. The supplier notes that this means the full range of functionality can be accessed without having to change the wiring in the vehicle.

Furthermore, different logger platforms are available depending on the required computing power and data rate: The VP7400 processes data at up to 1GB/s. The VP6400 is designed for up to 500MB/s, and the VN8911 rounds out the portfolio at the lower end with up to 15MB/s. A multi-PC solution with additional hardware modules tuned by only one CANape log also allows recording rates to be increased at will.
