TriEye technology aims to improve sensing capabilities

Next-gen imaging and 3D solutions technology company TriEye has launched its Spectrum Enhanced Detection and Ranging (SEDAR) platform, which has been developed to transform sensing solutions within the automotive industry, and also the robotics, commercial vehicle applications, consumer and mobile devices sectors.

TriEye’s SEDAR platform uses short-wave infrared (SWIR) to enable 2D imaging and 3D determinative depth sensing at a cheaper price point compared to other automotive sensor systems such as lidar. The SEDAR platform enables entities such as vehicles, robots and mobile devices to better understand their surrounding environment in all conditions and lighting scenarios. TriEye’s solution is currently backed by investors from Intel, Samsung and Porsche.

SEDAR is built on TriEye’s Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor-based (CMOS) HD SWIR sensor and provides a multi-beneficial, automotive-grade off-the-shelf solution to enhance safety and operating performance in ADAS and AV applications. TriEye’s system can be integrated with existing ISP and AI algorithms, removing the barriers of training and the need to develop new object classification algorithms. It is also unaffected by other illumination sources such as sunlight or light from other devices and oncoming vehicles.

A development program conducted by TriEye has enabled SEDAR to operate effectively at distances of over 200m. TriEye’s engineers have also optimized system performance for other shorter-range applications with a wide field of view.

“The TriEye SEDAR platform is poised to transform the sensing industry with its unique combination of attributes,” explained Avi Bakal, CEO and co-founder, TriEye. “Developed through a decade of research at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, SEDAR combines a SWIR image sensor and laser illuminator on a single platform, which delivers unmatched high spatial resolution long-range imaging and depth sensing in all lighting and weather conditions. Smaller in size, higher in resolution and easier to integrate than other sensor technologies, SEDAR provides an entirely new sensing modality.”

“By reducing the system cost compared with lidar by more than a factor of 10 and providing a technology capable of enabling a vehicle to sense the world around it, monitor its environment and react accordingly, within affordable reach of all automotive manufacturers, TriEye’s proprietary SEDAR system will democratize advanced road safety,” added Bakal.

“The SEDAR platform is fully scalable and thus meets the needs of a wide range of sensing applications. SEDAR provides a ready-made bolt-on solution to deliver a step change for commercial vehicles operating in busy and potentially hazardous environments such as construction, agriculture and mining.”
