In the initial phase of work, Kodiak will pilot the use of its self-driving technology to transport timber from forest sites to one of West Fraser’s Alberta processing facilities in Western Canada later this year. Results of the pilot will be used to inform any future long-term deployment of Kodiak Driver-equipped trucks for commercial driverless operations.

These rules are the result of an extensive public comment and review process. Under the updated regulations, AV manufacturers may now apply for permits to test and deploy heavy-duty autonomous vehicle technology on California roadways.

The rules also expand safety and oversight requirements for all classes of AVs, enabling law enforcement agencies to cite AV companies for moving violations committed by their vehicles, requiring AV companies to respond to first responder calls within 30 seconds, and authorizing local emergency officials to issue electronic geofencing directives to clear AVs from active emergency zones.

The benchmark is part of recently added pass/fail evaluations in NHTSA’s New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), which are intended to provide consumers with more information about the safety performance of driver-assistance technologies. You can see the latest NHTSA data on the Model Y here.

“Today’s announcement marks a significant step forward in our efforts to provide consumers with the most comprehensive safety ratings ever,” said NHTSA administrator Jonathan Morrison.

The in-cabin radar monitoring system was developed using the HighTec Development Platform.

Novelic’s ACAM system is a cutting-edge automotive radar technology designed to monitor the vehicle cabin and detect the presence and movement of occupants, including children. It enables reliable in-cabin sensing capabilities that help automotive manufacturers meet emerging safety standards such as Euro NCAP’s child presence detection (CPD) protocols, which aim to prevent tragic incidents involving children left unattended in vehicles.

The ACAM solution from Novelic has received industry recognition for its innovative approach to in-cabin sensing, including the In-Cabin Innovation Award.

The analysis covered Mazda vehicles from model years 2015 to 2023, examining six ADAS bundles and four standalone systems. Technologies assessed included automatic emergency braking, lane departure prevention, high beam assist and driver monitoring systems.

According to HLDI, larger bundles of safety features, typically incorporating newer-generation systems, were associated with greater reductions in claim frequency.

The most basic bundle, which includes front AEB with forward collision warning, reduced property damage liability (PDL) claims by 13% and bodily injury liability (BIL) claims by 9%.

The system integrates Silicon Labs’ ultra-low-power BG22 Bluetooth LE SoC into BANF’s in-tire sensor platform, turning the tire into a connected intelligence node.

Traditional tire pressure monitoring systems alert drivers only when pressure drops significantly, offering limited insight into tire performance. BANF’s solution, by contrast, measures acceleration, pressure, temperature and tread depth at thousands of samples per second inside the tire. Key signals – such as wheel-nut loosening, slip events or reduced friction – are processed within the tire, reducing communication load and improving response time before sending alerts to the vehicle.

It joins the companies’ expanding line-up of certified test equipment, which includes targets and propulsion systems for cars, motorcycles and pedestrians.

“Cyclist safety is increasingly under the spotlight, as they represent a growing share of road fatalities in the EU,” said Dr Andrew Pick, business director for track test systems at AB Dynamics. “To combat this, Euro NCAP has recently increased the number of test scenarios involving a cyclist for both the passenger-vehicle and HGV programs. As these scenarios become more complex and demanding, the industry needs test objects that are both realistic and robust.
