Waymo has moved a step closer to introducing a fully autonomous ride-hailing service to the streets of London as it begins testing autonomous driving in the UK capital with a trained specialist behind the wheel.
The company is also investing in the UK by hiring world-class talent, establishing multiple autonomous vehicle service centers across London, and strengthening its relationships with emergency services as it builds the foundation to expand its business in Europe. The Alphabet-owned US mobility company is targeting launching its robotaxi service in the UK by the end of 2026.
This announcement comes as Waymo is expanding its service in the USA. Its autonomous ride-hailing service is now open to the public in Miami and Orlando in Florida after first being available only to those registered on an ‘initial interest’ list, and and the company also launched its service in Nashville, Tennessee, earlier this month.
