Ambarella, Inc., which specializes in edge AI semiconductors, has unveiled its latest AI systems-on-chip (SoCs) at AutoSens USA, which took place last week on May 21-23 and brought together OEM, Tier 1 and supply chain engineers involved in automotive sensing technology. The new 5nm SoCs are designed for in-vehicle fleet telematics systems, to improve capabilities in AI dash cams and vehicle gateways.

The CV75AX SoC can provide up to double the AI performance of its predecessor, enabling advanced transformer neural networks for improved accuracy and fewer false positives without the need for extensive object-specific training. Ambarella says this makes it ideal for AI dash cams with front-facing ADAS and driver monitoring systems (DMS). It also supports more complex driver-scoring models.

The CV72AX SoC is suitable for next-generation vehicle gateways, supports up to 10 cameras and delivers up to six times the AI performance of previous models. It enables vision transformers and multi-modal vision language models (VLMs), which provide instant event alerts, multi-channel video pre-categorization and natural-language search capabilities for efficient video analysis.

The SoCs feature Ambarella’s CVflow 3.0 AI engine, double the CPU performance, LPDDR5 support with twice the DRAM bandwidth and a high-speed USB 3.2 interface for 5G modems.

Manufactured using Samsung Foundry’s 5nm FinFET process technology, these SoCs operate over a temperature range of -40°C to 105°C and they also include an advanced image signal processor and H.264/5 video encoder for high-quality imaging and multi-channel recording.

“Our current generation of AI SoCs has been widely adopted for in-vehicle systems by leading fleet telematics providers, with our unique ability to enable fanless AI dash cams that don’t impede the driver’s view,” said Senya Pertsel, senior director of automotive marketing at Ambarella.

“With our new CV75AX and CV72AX SoCs’ increased AI performance, efficiency and features, while maintaining that fanless capability, we have already secured designs and are being evaluated by leading telematics providers for next-generation systems to enable transformer-perception, VLM-analysis and driver-scoring models.”

Both SoCs use the same software development kit (SDK) and are supported by Ambarella’s Cooper Developer Platform, which provides hardware and software solutions for edge AI systems.

The CV75AX and CV72AX SoCs are now available for sampling.
