Bosch and Cariad have completed the joint development of assisted and automated driving functions within the Automated Driving Alliance. The project partners have created a software stack with artificial intelligence that can be integrated into various vehicle classes, from small cars to premium models, and into both electric and combustion engine platforms. The VW ID EVERY1 solution is available to both project partners for use in series production projects and for their respective further development, and will go into production in 2027.
The project partners’ ADAS functions include Level 2 capabilities offering driver support across a range of traffic situations, including hands-free driving at the highest level. The integration of AI is intended to make these systems more capable and responsive in real-world conditions.
Christoph Hartung, CTO of Bosch Mobility, said, “In future-oriented fields like automated driving, it makes sense to pool resources during development. We have done just that and together created the technological foundation for scalable ADAS solutions. We have already secured orders worldwide from renowned vehicle manufacturers for our software stack. All projects are on schedule with regard to the planned series launches. We are demonstrating the competitiveness of our in-house AI-based ADAS solutions, for example, in the particularly competitive Chinese market.”
The system was tested with development vehicles across Europe, Japan and North America, with training data collected by a dedicated fleet. Additional data was gathered from operational vehicle fleets provided by logistics companies, leasing firms and service operators in daily use worldwide, comprising a combined total of up to 1,500 vehicles globally. This broader fleet base was used to build a robust dataset for algorithm training, including the recording of rare edge-case scenarios, known as corner cases, to validate system performance in demanding conditions.
“The ADAS technologies developed jointly with Cariad will be used in the upcoming ramp-ups at VW and other customers,” said Markus Heyn, chairman of Bosch Mobility and deputy chairman of the board of management.
Oliver Blume, chairman of the board of management of the Volkswagen Group, said, “Cariad and Bosch have jointly created a strong technological foundation for this within the Automated Driving Alliance. We are now building on this – with a clear focus on speed, scalability and rapid implementation for our brands and customers.”
“Together, we have developed high-performance driver assistance technologies up to Level 2,” said Peter Bosch, CEO of Cariad. ‘These provide a strong foundation for optimal customer features and cost-effectiveness in our vehicles. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the collaborative partnership based on mutual respect and trust. We are now building on this foundation with greater ownership and responsibility. ADAS systems with powerful AI will shape the next generation of automated driving functions.”
With the conclusion of the development partnership, both project partners have access to a broad portfolio of shared intellectual property and data created within the framework of the Automated Driving Alliance.
