Updated programs have just been been released for the two conferences that will take place alongside Autonomous Vehicle Technology Expo in Novi, MI, this October. Both line-ups are packed with expert speakers discussing the critical issues and latest advances in the world of AVs and ADAS.

At the Autonomous Vehicle Test & Development Symposium, industry experts will discuss the latest AV and ADAS technology and testing methods, while at the ADAS & AV Legal Issues & Liabilities World Congress, speakers from leading OEMs, academia and the world of law will analyze the legal issues brought about by different levels of autonomy.

The Test & Development Symposium boasts more than 45 speakers, divided over three days and two rooms. It will kick off with a general introduction to the issues with safety testing autonomous driving systems, by Michelle Chaka, from Virginia Tech.

The rest of the three days is packed with insights from OEMs including GM, FCA, BMW and Renault; software and automation specialists including Siemens, Ansys, Nvidia; and testing, positioning and data companies including Velodyne, TÜV Süd, dSpace, National Instruments and Spirent.

A particular highlight is the talk by Andras Kemeny, Renault’s simulation godfather, where he will outline a virtual testing chain with a focus on using driver-in-the-loop tools to achieve driver acceptance level. This can then inform HMI design.

Another must-attend will be Ansys’ Sandeep Sovani’s presentation on high-fidelity physics. He will go into the importance of modeling vehicles from the component level up and review how to solve the computing challenges this multi-layered approach poses.

If the main program wasn’t enough, MSC Software will be holding a lunchtime workshop program, where its experts will be taking a deep dive into a probabilistic approach for scenario-based analysis. The session is free for conference delegates, but spaces are limited, so make sure to register your interest quickly.

The ADAS & AV Legal Issues & Liabilities World Congress features an equally compelling line-up. The program has been coordinated with expert insight from conference chair Nicholas Wittner, who is currently Professor of law in residence at Michigan State University, after a career as legal counsel at several OEMs.

A highlight of the program will see Wittner apply theories of product liability to some real-world incidents, together with associate general counsel and executive director for litigation at Hyundai Motor America, Tom Vanderford.

Another highlight will be the talk from engineer-turned-lawyer Jennifer Dukarski at law firm Butzel Long, where she will discuss how ethics should inform the design of autonomous vehicles and other emerging technologies.

Further key speakers include Jerry Johnson, the vice president and deputy general counsel for Bosch North America, and Anthony Cooke, deputy general counsel and vice president for policy and regulation at lidar manufacturer, Luminar.

This is just a taster of what’s on offer at the two conferences. For the most up-to-date programs, head to the Autonomous Vehicle Test & Development Symposium and ADAS & AV Legal Issues & Liabilities World Congress websites.

If you book now, you can take advantage of an early-booking discount that will save you up to $195.
