California-based autonomous vehicle technology company Applied Intuition has released its latest log management handbook titled Powering Autonomy With Log Data (Part 1).
On every autonomy program, log data management is viewed as one of the most crucial tasks. At present, autonomous test fleets collect on average an estimated 4TB of log data per vehicle each day, while production fleets can generate millions of events in the same period. Applied Intuition states that this highly important data can power the development efforts of an autonomy program.
With real-world testing being expensive and with added challenges to overcome such as risk, it is imperative that autonomy programs collect and manage log data accurately and effectively. To operate a test fleet, companies have to buy and maintain vehicles and sensors and pay safety operators. Furthermore, mistakes in the real world can put human lives at risk, which must be avoided.
Because of this, autonomy programs should implement practices to scale data collection efficiently to build a pipeline for successful log data processing, in addition to constructing scalable workflows that extract the most value from all of the previously collected data.
The Powering Autonomy With Log Data (Part 1) handbook includes discussions on technical building blocks, ideal workflows and cost-management strategies during a large log management process.
