The companies also announced that autonomous on-road testing began last month, an important milestone in the development and validation of the robotaxi service ahead of its expected launch in the San Francisco Bay Area later this year. Nuro is leading the testing using robotaxi engineering prototypes supervised by autonomous vehicle operators, beginning in the Bay Area.

During CES, visitors were able to take a first look at the robotaxi, as well as check out the in-cabin rider experience.

The CLA is the German OEM’s first vehicle featuring the MB.OS platform, which introduces advanced driver assistance features powered by Nvidia’s full-stack Drive AV software, AI infrastructure and accelerated compute.

This design may enable over-the-air updates of future upgrades and new features, including planned enhancements to MB.Drive Assist Pro, which may be available ex-factory and through the Mercedes-Benz store.

The CLA recently achieved a five-star European New Car Assessment Program EuroNCAP safety rating.

The Kodiak Driver, Kodiak’s AI-powered virtual driver, incorporates technology that enables a human to provide remote assistance to a vehicle in certain low-speed and clearly-defined scenarios that benefit from human involvement. This ‘Assisted Autonomy’ capability is enabled by Verizon partner Vay Technology, a leading provider of automotive-grade remote driving technology.

Verizon connectivity enables Kodiak’s driverless vehicles to communicate with Assisted Autonomy drivers and send mission-critical communication between vehicles and command centers, with low latency over long distances in remote environments.

This world first, completed at an airfield close to Scania’s home in Södertälje, Sweden, was a true test of innovation and precision, as both the rider and the trucks needed to be in perfect sync for the jump to happen safely.

Having originally sketched the idea in a notepad, Matt chose to use Scania’s self-driving trucks because the accuracy and dependability of this cutting-edge AI-based technology would guarantee him a window of less than a second to make the jump.

However, it has its limitations. Waabi has launched an alternative to closed-course track testing – mixed reality testing (MRT).

Test track limitations

As the automotive industry has evolved toward automation, closed-course testing has been adopted by autonomous vehicle (AV) developers, from basic driver assistance systems to self-driving technology spanning SAE levels two through five. Though the practice is valuable, test tracks have limitations.

Test tracks are often resource-intensive; and they are also difficult to reproduce constantly and precisely, and therefore cannot always act as a control.

By fusing Mobileye DMS directly with Mobileye ADAS on a single chip, the company says auto makers can now benefit from a highly integrated platform that simplifies development, lowers system costs and scales easily across global vehicle programs.

“We’ve become a global leader in ADAS by constantly developing new technologies to solve challenges facing our customers,” said Nimrod Nehushtan, executive vice president of business development for Mobileye. “Our new DMS solution not only answers the business hurdles for integrating DMS and ADAS but improves the synergies between the two systems to make them even better for drivers.”

Unlike standalone solutions, Mobileye DMS works in concert with the vehicle’s external sensing systems.
