Kroger, an American supermarket retailer, is partnering with Nuro, developer of an autonomous delivery vehicle, to pilot a service for delivering groceries to people’s doorsteps.

The service launched on Thursday, August 16, using converted Toyota Priuses, with Nuro’s custom R1 vehicle to be introduced in fall.

Scottsdale residents can place an order with local Kroger department Fry’s Food, paying US$5.95 for same-day or next-day delivery by Nuro’s fleet of self-driving vehicles.

“Arizona is home to some of the most innovative autonomous vehicle testing,” said Nuro co-founder Dave Ferguson. “We’re proud to contribute and turn our vision for local commerce into a real, accessible service that residents of Scottsdale can use immediately.
