Cepton Technologies, a developer of lidar units, will work with Japanese Tier 1 automotive lighting supplier Koito Manufacturing to produce a compact lidar solution integrated in headlights.

The company’s Micro-Motion Technology lidar sensors are compact enough to be integrated in headlights while still enabling object detection at a distance of up to 300m. This means lidar can be fitted to vehicles with autonomous and ADAS functions without spoiling the design.

“We are excited to bring advanced lidar technology to vehicles to improve safety and reliability,” said Jun Pei, CEO and co-founder of Cepton.

“With the verification of our lidar technology, we hope to advance the goals of Koito, a global leader within the automotive lighting industry producing over 20% of headlights globally and 60% of Japanese OEM vehicles.”
