Having recently partnered with Holon to create a scalable pathway for organizations to introduce autonomous services into existing transportation systems, CharterUp founder and CEO Armir Harris caught up with AAVI to tell us more about how the partnership combines Holon’s autonomous technology and operational systems with CharterUp’s end-to-end software platform and deployment expertise. CharterUp will deploy Holon’s integrated autonomous mobility solution across its AI-enabled network, including campuses, airports, transit agencies and community environments.

Can you describe CharterUp’s current operation?

CharterUp manages the largest group transportation marketplace in North America, providing access to thousands of vehicles across all 50 states and Canada.

Slovakia has become WeRide’s fourth European market, following France, Belgium and Switzerland, with the USA-based autonomous driving company launching the country’s first AV program in partnership with Elevate Slovakia.

“I view the signing of this agreement as the beginning of a process that will allow Slovakia to responsibly and in a controlled manner test autonomous technologies in transport,” said Minister of Transport Jozef Ráž. “It will enable us to verify technologies transparently, with the participation of the state and with an emphasis on the public interest.”

Elevate Slovakia is a national, multi-stakeholder initiative that brings together public sector partners such as the Ministry of Transport of the Slovak Republic; Ministry of Investments, Regional Development and Informatization of the Slovak Republic; the City of Bratislava; Slovak Post; academia and private companies.

Nvidia and European mobility platform Bolt have announced that they are collaborating on an AI foundation that will enable the scaling of autonomous vehicles in Europe.

Bolt‘s ride-hailing, car-sharing, micromobility and delivery operations generate real-world driving data across some of the most complex urban environments in the world. That operational footprint provides a practical foundation for building autonomous vehicle systems that work reliably across a range of European countries where transportation infrastructure and regulations can differ considerably.

This partnership will combine Bolt’s extensive ride-hailing and carsharing fleet data with Nvidia Omniverse libraries, Nvidia Cosmos world foundation models, Nvidia Alpamayo AV foundation models and Nvidia AI infrastructure.

Aurrigo International has signed a contract to manufacture an initial 25-strong fleet of autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs) for rapid transit system specialist Ultra Global. The £6.28m deal will see Aurrigo modernize existing vehicle platforms to meet current performance, safety and technology standards. The vehicles will be used in airport and passenger settings in the UK.

Engineering development work will be completed by the end of this year, with vehicle production and testing to follow, and a completion date of September 2027.

The program draws on Aurrigo International’s deep technical capability across vehicle architecture, systems engineering and advanced technology deployment, ensuring the enhanced platform is robust, future-ready and commercially scalable.

Wayve has raised US$1.2bn in a series D investment round, bringing its post-money valuation to US$8.6bn. The funding accelerates the company’s shift from artificial intelligence research leadership to scaled commercial deployment of its end-to-end AI platform.

The round was led by Eclipse, Balderton and SoftBank Vision Fund 2, and brings in investment from Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, Baillie Gifford, British Business Bank, Icehouse Ventures, Schroders Capital and other global institutional investors.

Microsoft, Nvidia and Uber participated in the round, reflecting support for Wayve’s embodied AI as a foundational software layer for deploying autonomy at a global scale.

San Francisco International Airport (SFO) has approved Waymo to begin delivering a fully autonomous taxi service for passenger trips to and from the airport from January 29, marking the final phase of a pilot program that began in September 2025.

The approval allows autonomous vehicles begin carrying select passengers, following testing designed to ensure the safety of autonomous operations on SFO roadways. Passenger pickups and drop-offs will take place at the Rental Car Center Level 1 curbside, which is accessible via the AirTrain people mover.

SFO said the move expands ground transportation options for travelers while supporting innovation in the region.

Uber has launched AV Labs, a new team focused on accelerating the autonomy ecosystem by unlocking the hardest problem in the field today – a data flywheel that covers real-world, long-tail driving scenarios.

As machine learning technology advances, autonomy is increasingly a data and modeling race. Progress no longer hinges on closed-course testing or simulated environments alone – it depends on learning from rare, messy, real-world scenarios that only appear at scale. These edge cases are difficult and expensive to capture, and they remain a major bottleneck to deploying safe, reliable autonomy, at scale, in a reliable and sustainable way.

The Volkswagen Group is to begin the next testing phase of its self-driving research vehicle Gen.Urban, in Wolfsburg, Germany. After intensive trials, the Gen.Urban can now drive autonomously in real urban traffic. The research projects aims to explore how passengers experience riding in a self-driving vehicle without a traditional steering wheel or pedals – and what requirements this creates for future vehicle concepts.

An interdisciplinary team from Volkswagen Group Innovation, including designers, human factors specialists, software engineers and materials experts, is gathering comprehensive data on user behavior and interaction with the Gen.Urban. These findings will contribute to the development of future interior and user experience (UX) concepts across the Group’s brands.
