BYD sold over four million intelligent vehicles last year, surpassing all domestic competitors, and has now announced that all its models will be equipped with God’s Eye – BYD’s next-generation advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), ensuring that ADAS features are accessible to everyone. As an integral component in vehicles featuring navigation on autopilot (NOA) for cities and highways, lidar will empower two God’s Eye system variants.

According to Chinese automotive news site Gasgoo, the automotive lidar market in the country continues to see strong growth, with the (on-the-road) lidar installation volume exceeding 1.5 million units for the first time in 2024, more than double the volume in 2023.

This marks May Mobility’s third driverless deployment in USA, following successful deployments in Sun City, Arizona, and Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The deployment comes as a result of a partnership with Curiosity Lab, T-Mobile and the City of Peachtree Corners. May Mobility has been offering public rides in its Toyota Sienna Autono-MaaS to visitors of Peachtree Corner’s Curiosity Lab, one of the USA’s first smart city environments powered by connected infrastructure and T-Mobile’s 5G, since September 2024 with safety drivers in place.

The new rainfall algorithm helps to identify the difference between drops of rain and objects while operating in up to 50mm of precipitation per hour.

Alongside new housing to protect lidar sensors, the software breakthrough means the firm’s Auto-DollyTug can safely and effectively move baggage and cargo around airports in intense weather conditions that would have prevented manual operation.

The new software has been successfully tested in both scheduled simulated rain and opportunistic heavy rainfall, both proved by observation and by rain meter readings.

The partnership will integrate Foretellix’s Foretify platform with Simulink and MathWorks’ Automated Driving Toolbox, enabling Mazda engineers to generate, execute and analyze large-scale scenarios in a virtual environment.

The Foretellix and MathWorks technology stack enables Mazda to move real-world driving data into virtual simulation to test and scale scenarios. This combination helps engineering teams identify edge cases and gaps in coverage, and validate performance much earlier in the development process. As a result, time-to-market can be accelerated and system quality and safety improved.

Yasuhide Yano, deputy general manager of the integrated control systems development division at Mazda, said, “By using Foretify, Simulink and Automated Driving Toolbox, efficient and exhaustive verification can be performed in a virtual environment to achieve our goals in a short period of time.
